Have We Set A Date!? | Wedding Planning Update

So if you haven’t heard (aka been far away from my Instagram the last eight months) I got engaged! I chatted all about the proposal over in this post if your curious and nosy and like cute love stories.

The first few months we really hadn’t done a whole lot of wedding planning – we wanted a bunch of time to just soak it all in without diving into the planning process.

That few months of soaking it in turned into a few more months and I decided it was about time we start booking things. We had already decided on a Fall 2020 wedding, so it was time to get our butts in gear.

I knew I wanted tons of time to plan, so I’m super grateful to still have about a year and a half to knock out all the wedding tasks.

The biggest and most daunting of all was definitely the venue (which also means the date!) and I’m so excited to announce that we finally booked

And So It Begins

When the new year hit (we got engaged in September, for reference), I buckled down on researching venues.

I spent hours upon hours looking up venues, quickly shying away from uber expensive ones and sending emails upon emails to venues (please put your wedding packages on your websites people).

We took a look at a few and ultimately decided at the end of April to go back to the very first one we had viewed. There was just had such good vibes about the place, a great vibe from the owner, and it hit all the marks we were looking for.

We asked all the questions, made sure contracts were in place, tweaked our quote a few times and ultimately pulled the trigger.

We Have A Reception Venue!

You heard that right. We have the party place people. With food and drinks and of course a dance floor.

We ended up going with an industrial look – think exposed ceilings, brick walls, cool light bulbs – that sort of thing. The building has so much character and looks so neat on it’s own so it won’t need much for decor, which I love!

You may be thinking, but what about the ceremony?

I spent so much time researching a ceremony location that would have a ton of windows for natural light, looked clean and crisp, but nothing was coming up that would be remotely affordable. Having an outdoor wedding in Alberta scared me, but it’ll be no more than a half hour thing and we will make it work.

So with that being said, we are planning on a park ceremony! We still need to work out the details for that, but that’s the ultimate goal for now. We hope to check out the sites in person this summer some time to get a feel for where exactly we want.

The absolute biggest blessing on the reception venue we booked is the fact that they are willing to also be our backup ceremony location if god forbid the weather is awful or something else bad happens to the original ceremony location.

Though it’s not my ideal to have the ceremony indoors, it can still happen if need be and we won’t have to fret on where we’ll say our I Do’s!

It gives me SO much comfort to have a backup location already when you really never know how an outdoor location can go.

Sooo…When’s The Big Day?

I swear we got this question like fifteen minutes after we were engaged LOL (amongst other things I didn’t expect after getting engaged lol).

Though we had a season and year in the plans from the get go, we finally locked down our date when we booked our reception venue.

September 12th, 2020 we get freakin married.

It seems so far away yet soooo not.

I’m so excited to finally have a date and to feel like the ball is finally moving on this whole wedding planning thing.

I’ve never felt like we needed to rush into our wedding (I mean, c’mon, we’ve been together for seven years already, we’re clearly not rushing into anything lol).

That’s all the wedding updates I have for now, but I’ll be sure to track the progress over the next year and a half! I’m excited to look back on all these wedding posts to reflect on the process, and hopefully help some other brides along the way too!

Now that we have a date, I’m excited for the next steps like choosing a theme and colors, wedding dress shopping, crafting up some decor and so much more!

Make sure you check out my Instagram as that’s likely where you’ll find updates first!
