With Christmas behind us now, it’s time to start thinking about the new year. I don’t know about you, but man am I ready for 2016 to be over.
I totally get that you don’t need a new year to have a new start, but it definitely helps to put things behind you and start a clean slate.
I have a feeling that no matter what, 2017 is going to be so much better than 2016 – and I am going to be the one to make it that way. It’s really up to you and your own mindset to be happy, and that’s the number one thing I want to work on in the new year.
I’m not one to make and stick to new year’s resolutions, but there’s no harm in setting goals you want to strive for (kind of the same thing though right lol.) So here are five things I feel everyone should do or start in 2017 to have the best year yet.
Five Goal Ideas For The New Year
Go Somewhere New
To me this is such a big thing. I am so scared of change that I’m constantly choosing the same choices over and over. Whether that be for vacation spots, restaurants, or even routine I’m always staying with the safe bet.
I really want to work on expanding my horizons and taking chances. I’ll never discover new amazing things if I don’t try them. Look for new spots around town to have lunch, book a vacation in a new destination you’re unfamiliar with, heck try a new Netflix series you’ve never heard of.
Taking chances and risks can be so exciting and oh so rewarding, and that’s really what life should be about. New experiences are really what we need in this day and age to get away from the mundane of everyday life.
I’m honestly not a big fan of this word and I think it’s kinda lame (lol), but it’s so unbelievably true. You gotta work hard for what you want. Being lazy will get you no where. I totally get how frustrating it is to work hard and barely or slowly see progress, but I promise it will come if you keep it up.
Write down to-do lists to help keep yourself on track. Set realistic goals to reach so you can feel proud of yourself when you accomplish them.
Don’t Forget About You
How can someone else love you if you don’t love you? Another super cheesy quote that I find super weird, but semi true. Of course other people will love you even if you don’t have the highest confidence. But putting yourself first is also so so important.
Take care of your body and your mind. That is number one. If your health and mental health is not coming first, than there is an issue. Eat the right foods, take your mental health into account – do what you have to do to feel good. Whether that’s having a daily sweat sesh at the gym, or rewarding yourself with Netflix and popcorn after a long day, taking care of YOU is number one.
Fuel your body with the right foods. Choose veggies as a snack over chips. Choose water over pop (soda, for you Americans.) Simple decisions like that can make a big difference in how you feel, and the overall health of your body. Something that that isn’t a hard decision, but it definitely takes some willpower to even make those kind of small decisions.
Perfect A Hobby
This is a big one for me, and I really want to stick to it. I have a few different hobbies, but I haven’t been putting nearly enough time into them to truly be good.
Sit your ass down and work at your hobby. You will feel so good with the improvement you will be making. For me, I want to put my all into blogging, as well as get better at calligraphy. And the only way to do that is to really put forth the effort. Do the research you need in order to learn as much as you can.
The number one world runner (in my opinion) is appreciation. Everyone loves to feel appreciated. So give people your appreciation! Say please and thank you, flat out tell others that you appreciate them.
When people feel appreciated they’re more likely to do things for other people. And same goes for you! When you feel appreciated, it feels good to do things for others. And that’s really what the world is about! Stay grateful for what you have, and make sure to give back.
There’s really no better happiness than seeing someone else happy because you made them that way. That sounds selfish, and in a roundabout way I guess it kind of is, but in turn everyone’s happy, so does it really matter?
With a new year around the corner, it’s nice to have some goals or expectations of yourself. As human beings we should constantly be striving to be better people, and working towards that. Setting yourself some goals will help set some ground rules and lay out what you need to do to achieve them.
I am so excited for 2017 to begin to have a fresh slate in my life and in my mind. Cheers to the new year!
